How to transfer your mail folders from MyMail to your local hard drive

Before you can move mail from the York central mail server to your local hard drive, you need to setup a mail client (Thunderbird, Outlook Express, etc.) The following instructions explain how to transfer mail folders from central mail to you local hard drive using the Thunderbird mail client (recommended).

  1. Download/Install the Thunderbird mail client. Click here for Thunderbird download/installation instructions.
  2. Login to your mail server.  A list of all your mail folders will be visible on the left hand side of the screen.
You will also see the header “Local Folders” – all folders placed in “Local Folders” are stored on your hard drive NOT the server.
  3. To move a copy of a folder to “Local Folders,” drag the folder from the server to the “Local Folders” header.  The transfer may take a few minutes depending on the content of the folder being transferred.
  4. Repeat Step 3 for each folder that needs transferring to the “Local Folder”.
