Basic Instructions on How to Edit this Website

Site Navigation Bar

Refer to the Web Toolbox documentation on using the Site Navigation Bar.

  1. Log into your WordPress website
  2. Click on Appearance > Menus
  3. To add pages to your menu:
    1. In the ‘Pages’ section on the left of the screen, select the pages from your site that you want to add to the navigation bar
    2. Click on ‘Add to Menu’. The pages will appear in the ‘Menu Structure’ section on the right.
    3. To reorder the items in the navigation bar, drag and drop them into the order you want. If an item is dragged and dropped so that it is indented below the item above, it will show as a subsection item for the item above.
    4. To save your changes, click ‘Save Menu’ either at the top or bottom of page

Banner Image/Slideshow

  1. Log into WordPress
  2. Click on the 'Slides' option in the left navigation
  3. To add a banner image/slide:
    • Click on 'Add New'
    • Enter the title for the slide. This is also used as the alt text for the image (for web accessibility) so it needs include any text that's in the image and a description of the image.
    • Upload or choose an image from the Media Library (recommended minimum image size is 1200x360 pixels) and the click 'Select'
    • Include a Slide Link if you want the image to link to a page on your website.
    • Include Slide Text if you want text on top of your banner or slide image.
    • Caption Position: If you don't have Slide Text, select 'Hidden'. If you have Slide Text, choose whether you want your text to be on the left or right of the banner/slide image.
    • Click 'Update' to save
  4. To edit a banner image/slide:
    • Click on the 'Slides' option in the left navigation
    • Find the slide you want, hover over the title and click 'Edit'
    • Make your changes and then click 'Update' to save

Footer

  1. Click on Appearance, then Widgets in the left navigation
  2. On the right side of the screen click on the 'Page Footer' dropdown and then the 'Text' dropdown.
  3. Choose the 'Text' tab to edit in code view. Make your changes then click 'Save'.

Right Sidebar

  1. Log into WordPress
  2. Click on Appearance > Widgets
  3. Click on the ‘Right Sidebar Widget Area’ dropdown on the right of the screen to open it. Drag and drag widgets from the ‘Available Widgets’ section on the left of the screen to the ‘Right Sidebar Widget Area’, where you can also drag and drop the widgets to reorder them.
  4. For each widget, enter a title if you want a heading to be visible for that widget in the right sidebar. Enter the information you want in the text box of the widget then click ‘Save’.
